Artist Statement
This project came to me when I was looking at a chandelier in a neighbor’s home when I brought a plate they had left us back. The way the crystals hung and sparkled had my mind buzzing with ideas. I got to work designing the mobile, and worked for about two full days to bring it to completion. Cramped in the hot garage sprinkling glitter on the weights like a chef seasoning meat, I felt submerged in my art.
I used a plastic tub lid to make the weights on the mobile, and I used glue and glitter to decorate them. One was covered in aluminum and rhinestones, as I wanted one to be unique among the glitter catastrophe. It brought me feelings of individuality, pride, and difference when I saw the one weight that looked different from the rest. I wonder if anyone else could feel that way about it? |
